St. Paul, MN & Hartland, WI – Priogen Corp, a University of Minnesota startup company specializing in prion diagnostics, has announced a strategic partnership with Field to Freezer®, the leading mobile-app-driven wild-game processing platform. This first-of-its-kind collaboration will provide hunters and venison consumers access to convenient Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) testing across the United States.
Through this partnership, users of the Field to Freezer platform can seamlessly order and utilize Priogen’s venison CWD test kits. Priogen’s CWD testing services leverage RT-QuIC protocols developed at the University of Minnesota, with results provided to the customer within one to two weeks, while also upholding state reporting requirements. The collaboration ensures hunters, processors, and families can make informed consumption choices with timely, reliable results.
“CWD threatens not only deer and elk populations but also the hunting traditions that bind communities nationwide,” said Peter Larsen, Co-founder & CEO of Priogen. “By partnering with Field to Freezer, we’re giving hunters the ability to integrate CWD testing into their venison processing pipeline—screening for prions while simultaneously reporting results to agencies and strengthening national surveillance efforts. It’s an all-hands-on-deck moment, and Priogen is committed to doing its part.”
“Convenient and accurate CWD testing is a growing need in the hunting community that Priogen is uniquely positioned to meet. We are happy to pair Priogen’s innovative product with Field to Freezer’s patented, wild-game processing system to bring about a better hunting and meat processing experience,” said Matt McCoy, founder of Field to Freezer.
Priogen’s CWD test kits are available immediately with a 10% discount through Field to Freezer’s website and mobile app. Kits are priced starting at $59 for single samples, with discounts available for multi-packs. Results are returned within one to two weeks, and bulk-order support is available for hunting camps, outfitters, state, and tribal agencies.
Founded in 2022 as a spin-out from the University of Minnesota’s prion research center, Priogen is a protein diagnostics company specializing in next-generation RT-QuIC and Nano-QuIC™ detection services and reagents. The company’s mission is to provide rapid, ultra-sensitive detection of prion diseases across wildlife, livestock, and humans.
Field to Freezer offers the largest searchable database of game meat processors in North America and a patented mobile-app system that streamlines wild-game processing. With this partnership, hunters now have a seamless way to connect processing and CWD testing.
